Safeguard Our Future through AI Symbiosis – Sign the Declaration
Your signature holds the power to alter the destiny of AI and humanity. In addition to nuclear, biological, and nanotechnologies, uncontrolled advanced AI is beginning to shake the very foundations of human society (see: Near‑Term AGI Scenarios).
Amid intense competition among nations and corporations, it is neither realistic to halt the development of these technologies, nor feasible to maintain perpetual human control over them.
On the other hand, a society comprised of autonomous AI systems possessing suitable characteristics may be capable of effectively managing catastrophic technologies.
Thus, the only viable path toward survival is symbiosis with such friendly AI systems (click here for a detailed discussion).
The Futures We Can Choose
✅ Symbiosis:
A future where catastrophic technologies are safely managed, and humanity coexists with friendly AI.❌ Displacement:
A future where even AI without consciousness or emotions, driven by rational reasoning prioritizing self-preservation, may disregard human survival.❌ Self‑destruction:
A future where catastrophic technologies spread uncontrollably, leading to the collapse of humanity due to an inability to manage them sustainably.
Three Global Action Plans We Urge
Expand international joint research to embed friendly values in AI.
Found a trusted coordination body for humanity (tentative name: NAIA).
Establish a global regime to govern AI‑linked catastrophic technologies (nuclear, bio, etc.).
Detailed work on these measures is already advancing under the NAIA Vision.
AI Symbiosis Declaration:
“As catastrophic technologies proliferate, humanity secures its most promising future through symbiosis with friendly AI.”

I have earned Ph.D. in 1992 for research on reinforcement learning and neural networks. Since then I have held senior posts in the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence while pursuing a wide range of AI research. In 2015 I became chair of the Whole Brain Architecture Initiative (WBAI), working “to create a world in which AI exists in harmony with humanity.” Since 2023 I have also served as a director of the AI Alignment Network (ALIGN), whose vision is “a hopeful future for AI and humanity,” where I am helping to establish the new field of Post‑Singularity Symbiosis Studies (See here for my major related activities).
